Today I finally got to GILLBT: Ghana Institution of Linguistics, Literacy, and Bible Translation. They do a variety of things, mainly promoting literacy and teaching Ghanians how to read along with translating the Bible into the local dialects. (60 languages are spoken here in Ghana). I am considered an intern for these next few weeks, although my main man (the director here Paul) will be gone from Friday on. So from there I can design the internship how I want.
Today I participated in a conference GILLBT was hosting on Linguistics in Ghana. There were some fascinating topics; some on African Integration, Literacy and Education in Northern Ghana, the representation of Women in the Bible. There were also a few quite over my head, namely those dealing with discoveries of new ways to create written languages from what Ghanians speak. While it was interesting, it was long, from 9 AM to 6 PM. But I learned a lot, especially about GILLBT and how things work here. Tomorrow is yet another new day, but I know it will be hot. And unfortunately, it didn't rain today.
For the record (of someone in particular..) the town I am in is pronounced TAH Muh Leh (with emphasis on the first syllable) quite unlike a hot tamale.

Hahahaha. Bumb deal. Why do they pronounce it incorrectly? Oh well, I'll have to come up with another very funny pun. I'll start working on it....
